Consumer InformationHome health care is an important, highly cost-effective alternative to hospital or nursing home care for thousands of Illinois citizens with chronic illness; recovering from surgery, injury, or acute illness; terminal patients; and bedridden or elderly patients living alone. Home care allows patients to stay in the comfort of their own homes while keeping down costs of hospital stays and assisted living, while giving the patient the medical attention he or she needs. Skilled intermittent home health services are different from those provided by Personal Assistants to the disabled, or those services provided by the Community Care Program of the Department on Aging. These home visits are prescribed by a doctor as medically necessary services to homebound individuals. Services include skilled nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, or a home health aide. The Illinois HomeCare Council is the nation's first home care association and is the voice of home care in Illinois. If you have questions about home care, or home care services, email info@ilhomecare.org.
